Medicinal Chemistry Position at Elan in South San Francisco
Elan is a neuroscience-based biotechnology company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. It was incorporated as a private limited company in December 1969 and became a public limited company in January 1984. Elan’s principal research and development, manufacturing and marketing facilities are located in Ireland and the United States.
Elan is organized into two business units: BioNeurology and Elan Drug Technologies.
BioNeurology
BioNeurology includes research, development, and commercial activities for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease and autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease.
Elan Drug Technologies
Elan Drug Technologies (EDT) the world’s leading drug delivery business, develops and manufactures innovative pharmaceuticals using its extensive experience and proprietary drug technologies in partnership with pharmaceutical companies. For 40 years, EDT has enhanced the performance of dozens of drugs that are marketed and used by millions of patients.
Job description: Scientist in the 25-person chemistry group at Elan Pharmaceuticals, a successful, medium-sized pharmaceutical company focused on neurodegenerative diseases, and located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Member of a team of 3-6 chemists, preparing novel compounds, towards the discovery of drug candidates. Designing target molecules, planning organic syntheses, and executing syntheses, in collaboration with an experienced supervisor doing the same.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in organic chemistry. Relevant post-doc would be a plus. Zero to five years experience in industrial drug discovery research. Skilled in planning and executing synthetic organic chemistry. Knowledge about protein-small molecule interactions and/or small molecule pharmacology would be a plus. Fluent in spoken and written English. Record of publications, patent applications, and conference presentations, demonstrating organic/medicinal chemistry research success. Strong recommendations from established research leaders indicating high motivation and creativity.

Adjunct Instructor Position, College of Alameda
College of Alameda is looking for instructors to teach general and introductory chemistry. Chem 1A meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 to 5:00 pm with lab on Tuesday evening from 6:00-9:00 pm. Chem 30A lecture is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11:00 am with lab on Tuesdays from 11:00am-2:00 pm. Alameda is an island community adjacent to Oakland, California.
