Local Student Win Chance to Qualify for International Chemistry Olympiad (ICO)
The California Section of the ACS had 17 outstanding high school chemistry students participated in the Chemistry Olympiad qualifying exam at Los Positas CC in Livermore, CA on 24 April. The local exams involved a series of theoretical exams both multiple choice and problem sets, and two laboratory exercises.
The local students are among more than 1000 nationwide that took the national qualifying exam between April 22-26, 2010 to select finalists. Twenty students will be selected and will have intensive traning during June 1-16 a the US Air Force Academy in Colorado. The top four students will be chosen to represent the US at the 42nd ICO in Tokyo, Japan July 19-28, 2010.
